Dimitrios Tzachanis, M.D., PhD

Dimitrios Tzachanis, MD, PhD is a member of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at Cedars-Sinai’s Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Tzachanis was a member of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program and the Director of the AIDS Malignancy Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Tzachanis is board-certified with the American Board of Medical Oncology, American Board of Hematology and American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of several professional societies including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation and the American Association of Immunologists.

Dr. Tzachanis received his medical degree from the Aristotelian University School of Medicine in Thessaloniki, Greece and a doctorate in Immunology from the Athens University School of Medicine, Greece. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and undertook a clinical fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as well as a research fellowship at the Department of Adult Oncology, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Dr. Tzachanis’ research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals including Nature Immunology, Blood, The Journal of Immunology, The New England Journal of Medicine, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Cell Cycle and The Journal of Immunotherapy.

He has received numerous awards and honors including the USC Norris Hematology and Oncology Fellows Teaching Award, the Department of Defense Postdoctoral Traineeship Award, the Amgen Oncology Fellow Educational Grant and five ASH Abstract Achievement Awards.

With commitment to the community, Dr. Tzachanis served as an organizer for the Patient Navigator Program and for the Community Advisory Board for patients with AIDS and cancer at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He has been named a top ten hematology and oncology doctor in the Longwood Medical Area and has received the Most Compassionate Doctor, the Best Doctors in America and the Patient’s Choice Awards.
