  • Camp Kesem

    Kesem is committed to creating a world where every child who has a parent with a cancer diagnosis or has lost a parent to cancer is never alone. We support these children through and beyond their parent’s cancer with free, fun-filled creative programs and a lasting community.

    This grant from TCRF will fund Camp Kesem, free summer camps for children who have been impacted by a parent’s cancer.The transformative Kesem experience helps address the often common and significant effects the child may face, including isolation from peers, negative academic performance, loss of social interest, and taking on adult responsibilities at home. Kesem is a life-changing experience resulting in improved self-esteem, enhanced coping skills, increased self-confidence, and stronger emotional intelligence.

  • Cedars-Sinai Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute

    Cedars Sinai Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute and its newly established Research Center for Health Equity will develop a program to reach and provide cancer education to underserved, low-income, and diverse Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer identified (LGBTQ) communities, inclusive of African American, Latino, LatinX, Asian, Pacific Islander, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Armenian, Persian and Arab in Los Angeles.

    A grant from TCRF will support the development of a program to reach and provide cancer education to underserved, low-income, and diverse Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer identified (LGBTQ) communities in Los Angeles. Through a LGBTQ stakeholder engagement process, the program will identify barriers to prevention and access and develop sensitive materials and messages to empower community members to access cancer prevention and screening programs. A key objective will include the development of a regional action plan to address cancer disparities in the LGBTQ communities and strategies to impact social determinants that result in poor outcomes for this community, in addition to education and referral to screening services in LGBTQ communities throughout Los Angeles.

  • Childhood Cancer Foundation

    The Childhood Cancer Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization located in Volusia County, Florida whose mission is to ensure that no one is facing the diagnosis of childhood cancer alone and to provide financial support to families during the most difficult time in their lives.

    This grant from TCRF will support CCFSC’s Family Assistance Program which works directly with families to identify their need for support; including emergency assistance, transportation assistance, grocery/household item assistance, hospital meal vouchers, Doug-out temporary housing, and bereavement or funeral assistance will be provided to families in coordination with hospital social workers.

  • Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA)

    In pediatric facilities throughout the country, children undergo necessary yet painful and distressing procedures every day, but very few non-pharmaceutical interventions have been determined to successfully manage the pain and anxiety associated with these procedures. Dr. Jeffrey Gold, a clinical psychologist and director of CHLA’s Pediatric Pain Management Clinic, is examining the effectiveness of virtual reality for children and adolescents undergoing painful procedures such as blood draws.

    A grant from TCRF, funded by the Cancer Free Generation, will support virtual reality research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) with the ultimately goal of advancing the study and application of virtual reality in pediatric medicine. This grant will help expand Dr. Gold’s research from a few areas of interest toward a clinical service line; ongoing research and evaluation; modification of hardware and virtual environments; collaboration with universities; industry and other hospitals.

  • Healing Odyssey

    Healing Odyssey is a 501©(3) nonprofit corporation whose mission is to empower women cancer survivors to be strong, hopeful and courageous through innovative and active education and support programs.

    A grant from TCRF will help to keep Healing Odyssey’s retreat fees affordable to everyone. Healing Odyssey’s three-day retreat takes traditional discussion therapy techniques addressing the trauma of
    cancer, makes them active and participatory, and adds physical challenges to be met and mastered. Together, these elements offer a transformative experience that helps move those that participate back into their own lives –empowered, renewed, and supported by a community of fellow survivors who understand

  • Project Angel Food

    Project Angel Food prepares and delivers healthy meals to feed people impacted by serious illness, bringing comfort and hope every day.

    A grant from TCRF will go to support Project Angel Food’s home-delivered meal and nutrition services program, which helps keep our cancer clients nourished, helps improve medication adherence, and reduces food insecurity. Funds will contribute directly to the annual preparation of 115,000 meals to 360 Los Angeles County residents disabled by cancer, including weekly distribution of meals to the homes of our critically ill clients and nutritional counseling by a registered dietitian.

  • RIP Medical Debt

    RIP Medical Debt’s mission is to end medical debt and be: a source of justice in an unjust healthcare finance system, a unique solution for patient-centered healthcare providers, and a moral force for systemic change.

    This grant from TCRF will help develop new debt procurement strategies and abolish approximately $1 million in unpaid and unpayable cancer-related medical debt in Southern California, creating a brighter future for individuals and families affected by cancer.
