Steven Jonas, MD, PhD

Dr. Jonas is a UCLA physician-scientist specializing in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. He received a bachelor’s degree in materials science & engineering and a master’s degree in biomedical engineering prior to starting his medical training to pursue his M.D. and his Ph.D. degrees at UCLA through its NIH-supported Medical Scientist Training Program.

Dr. Jonas completed his pediatric residency and fellowship training in pediatric hematology/oncology at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital where he was the first trainee in a specialized physician-scientist track established by the Department of Pediatrics at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. 

His research is primarily focused on the design of nanotechnologies that enable rapid, safe, cost-effective, and efficient delivery of genes and genome-editing machinery to immune and stem cells for manufacturing new gene and cellular therapies.
