Patient Aid Program
The BumbleBee Foundation
The BumbleBee Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) founded in 2011. The BumbleBee Foundation’s mission is to inspire hope and faith by holistically addressing the needs of economically and emotionally stressed families dealing with a child with a serious and sometimes fatal medical condition. The Patient Aid program is designed to assist California-resident families with a child 18 years of age or younger who has been diagnosed with cancer through direct financial assistance. These families may need financial assistance for basic subsistence which includes mortgage and/or rent costs, utilities and groceries but also assistance with child care costs for other siblings and transportation costs particularly if treatment is provided at facilities that are not close to the family’s home or is provided through multiple locations. We also help cover medical-related expenses such as co-payments, deductibles, and coinsurance. In the worst case, we also provide assistance with funeral costs. The Patient Aid recipient families come from all ethnic backgrounds: Latino (55%); Caucasian (26%), African-American (6%), Asian (2%) and all others (11%).
