Did you know Magnolia House offers a Wig Concierge Program?
We spoke with Linda Delsack, a beloved member of the Survivors Program Committee at Tower Cancer Research Foundation, who launched this beautiful initiative over 15 years ago. Linda shared that, while undergoing chemotherapy, wearing a wig made a significant difference in her emotional resilience. Recognizing the profound impact a wig can have, Linda worked with a hair salon in Beverly Hills that graciously donated their time to clean and restyle the wigs so that others could enjoy them.
Since COVID, the program has expanded, welcoming two wonderful new Wig Specialists: Patti Stein and Nadine Neiman, who continue this important work today.
To better understand the heart and impact of this program, we asked Linda and Patti to share more about the program’s spirit and evolution over the years, and here’s what they told us:
- Many people in our community may not yet know about the Wig Concierge Program at Magnolia House. Can you share what it is, how it works, and who it’s here to support?
Our Wig Concierge service specializes in providing free, private and confidential consultations for cancer patients in need of help navigating the process of selecting the right wig and how to care for it. - Whether someone is newly diagnosed, in treatment, or simply exploring the idea of wearing a wig, what kind of support can they expect from the Wig Concierge Program, and how can they take that first step when they feel ready?
Many of the Wig Concierge Specialists are breast cancer survivors. We have been through what they are about to embark upon. We are here to listen and to talk about their concerns. We are here to support them throughout their journey during treatment and beyond. We have a number of resources that we are happy to share with them. They can take the first step by calling or emailing us at Magnolia House at Tower Cancer Research Foundation, and one of our Concierge Wig Specialists will get back to them. - For those who want to support the program, is there a way to donate wigs or help spread the word?
Most of our wonderful synthetic wigs are gently used and donated to us. They are from cancer survivors who are no longer in need of them. If you know of anyone who may have a real or synthetic wig that they no longer need, you can tell them about us and see if they would like to donate their gently used wig. We also occasionally receive new, real and synthetic wigs from people as donations.
